Kalkar, a picturesque small town in Germany, only a stone's throw away from the Dutch border near Arnhem, achieved notoriety in the 1980s. The German government had built a nuclear reprocressing plant in this quite densly populated area but somehow forgot to inform the public accordingly which resulted in weeklong clashes between protestors and riot police. With upcoming elections the government finally decided not to phase the plant in but instead sell it to a private investor who converted it into a holiday park.
Today the “Wunderland Kalkar” features kid's rides and attractions, restaurants, bars, clubs and hotels all within the architecture of the former nuclear plant complete with cooling tower and
buildings for reactors, turbines etc. (something like 'Butlins on acid' as some British visitors put it). During the winter months the rides and attractions are closed and family business is low,
quite convenient really, so a a cunning plan was formed. Why not make use of the facilities and the surreal setting for a winter warmer scooter event and call it Scooterist
Due to the high demand we have reserved the whole area with rooms, clubs for the nighters that are exclusive to scooterists and an exhibition hall with a bar for a custom show, dealers market, fun games and entertainment. If you want to know more about the programme please click here.
Whether you’re here for just a day or for the whole weekend there’s a choice of packages to suit your pocket and inclination. People who book the whole weekend package or the 3-nights-package or 4-nights-package are allowed into the subterranean bar area with differently themed bars and they can also make use of the in-door facilities like bowling or pool billiards etc. All packages/tickets are all-in so once you’ve paid the rest is free. For detailed info on packages/tickets please click here.
